The horses pictured above await the slaughter truck in a kill pen at the infamous, "Monday Meat Sale." The freeze branded standardbred to the right is about to take his last ride ... to a slaughterhouse in Mexico. Sadly, he looks a lot like Paul Sorvino's horse, FedEx Man.

Paul Sorvino with his beloved horse, FedEx Man, the grandson of the legendary racehorse champion, Exceller. FedEx was rescued from a slaughter truck by Paul's daughter, Amanda.

Hi. I'm Paul Sorvino. You may know me as "Paulie Cicero" the formidable mob boss from GoodFellas.  You may also remember me from my well publicized speech in Washington DC, in which I spoke about my horse FedEx Man, the grandson of the legendary racehorse champion, Exceller. FedEx was loaded up in a 40 head semi-trailer  which stood for two full days at a sleazy killer buyer's driveway in West Virginia. His intended destination? Cavel Horse Slaughterhouse in Dekalb, Illinois.  But my daughter, Amanda made that pivotal phone call that saved his life and spared him a hanger at the meat locker.  Luckily Cavel was closed down and is now an ugly memory of yesterday. Today FedEx Man is not only a trained hunter/jumper/pleasure horse but he is also my best friend. Whenever I visit him in his pasture he will not let me leave. This special thoroughbred and I have a bond that can never be broken. FedEx has a place in my heart forever. I love him dearly and would do anything for him.

JOIN OUR HOT SUMMER "HORSES R PETS" CAMPAIGN!!!
Paul Sorvino, HorseFellas. Buttercup
An Emaciated "Buttercup," horse slaughterhouse survivor, with "HorseFella" Paul Sorvino her first day after rescue

Buttercup lived the last year of her life at the slaughterhouse tube meat supplier for 6 Flags Great Adventure Wild Animal Safari. Subsequently, she will have chronic cellulitis in her back leg for the rest of her life.

Buttercup has been rescued from the lion's den, so to speak.

She is only 7 years old ... a former racehorse.

Is there a place for a horse like Buttercup in American Society, or is she considered WORTHLESS because she will never win ribbons in the show ring with an unsightly back leg?

Joe, Buttercup

Mel Gorham, actress, horse activist, comedienne
Hi I'm Mel Gorham. I'm a dear friend of Amanda's and we've done many horse welfare projects together, including Amanda's upcoming film, "The Trouble with Cali," in which I rode the beautiful gray dapple rescue horse, Aspercel, in a compelling and pivotal scene.

I am honored to be a part of the "Horses R Pets" campaign. I've been undercover at Ohio's Sugar Creek Horse Auction in the Sorvino TV pilot, "The Goodfather."  That place was hell on earth for slaughter-bound horses.  I will never forget it as long as I live.

I came to America years ago from Cuba to live a free, independent lifestyle and follow my acting dreams, which eventually did come true! I am mortified that in this amazing country we slaughter our own horses, and send them off to foreign countries to satisfy foreign taste buds. After seeing the depressed, downtrodden and horrified horses waiting to be picked up for slaughter at the Sugar Creek Auction on Easter Sunday, I will never be the same again.

Those pathetic horses in that pen could have been America's next pet. I am urging all Americans to think about horse slaughter for a moment and consider why it's morally wrong. Now consider how you could make a difference in adopting a horse for mere pet value, not for what the horse can do for you, such as riding, plowing fields, or winning you ribbons at the shows. Horses have done so much for us -- they've built our heritage. Don't you think it's time that we give back to them?

Please consider adopting a horse that can't perform anymore as a companion. I promise, you won't be sorry. Horses have so much love to give. They are my heros.

Watch for the Sorvino's new reality TV pilot, "The Goodfather" and you'll have a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

COMING SOON ... THE GOODFATHER
